Tamara Peterson serves as executive vice president and deputy general counsel in the U.S. Bank Law Division, where she leads a global team of 36 legal professionals supporting the bank’s wealth management and investment services businesses.

Her portfolio encompasses global corporate trust, global fund services, institutional trust & custody, U.S. Bancorp Asset Management, and wealth management divisions including personal trust, private banking, U.S. Bancorp Investment Services, and U.S. Bancorp Advisers.

Peterson joined U.S. Bank in 2021 after holding various roles in the Wells Fargo Legal Department and wealth management business. She began her legal career in private practice, focusing on trusts and estates, and has advised corporate entities for more than two decades on legal and regulatory matters related to wealth management, fiduciary services, and investment activities.

Since joining U.S. Bank, Peterson has led her team through significant entity restructurings and merger and acquisition integrations, including transactions with PFM Asset Management and Union Bank. She has guided business lines through substantial regulatory changes impacting financial services and securities activities, while leading legal collaboration on strategic business decisions involving fiduciary activities, regulatory requirements, and conflict matters.

Peterson is a leader within both the U.S. Bank Law Division and the broader legal community.  She currently serves as executive co-sponsor of the Law Division’s Community of Respect and Engagement Program, which she helped strategically integrate from three separate groups to enhance effectiveness and promote inclusion.

Peterson previously served on the Minnesota State Bar Association Probate & Trust Section Council, where she led activities addressing ethics, professional responsibility, and diversity. She is actively engaged with TCDIP and the Minnesota Lavender Bar Association and regularly participates in legal mentoring relationships.  In addition, she is active in pro bono work, including Wills for Heroes and clinics supporting veterans, individuals facing housing challenges, and people seeking name changes within the LGBTQ+ community.

Beyond her legal responsibilities, Peterson is a highly regarded leader in professional and community organizations focused on the LGBTQ+ community. She serves as the global board executive adviser for the U.S. Bank Spectrum LGBTQ+ business resource group and previously served as enterprise president of Wells Fargo’s LGBTQ+ employee group. Peterson has spoken at national conferences including Out & Equal’s Workplace Summit and ROMBA’s Out Women in Business.
