Sarah Johnson Phillips has truly risen through the ranks at Stoel Rives LLP, a leading corporate and litigation law firm recognized for its work in project finance and the energy and natural resources industries.

Phillips began as the firm’s first-ever summer associate in 2008, joined the firm as an associate two years later, became a partner in 2017, and was named office managing partner this summer.

A member of the firm’s energy development team and chair of the firm’s solar working group, her practice focuses on energy project development and transactions, including representing clients in M&A transactions and negotiating complex project agreements for wind energy, solar, and battery energy storage projects.

Johnson Phillips has extensive experience in obtaining major project permits and working on energy regulatory matters before the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission. Prior to law school, she worked for five years in the renewable energy nonprofit sector in Minnesota, concentrating on energy policy, community wind energy and climate change issues.

Johnson Phillips is active in Stoel Rives’ Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee, and has taken a lead role in mentoring associates at the Minnesota office. She has also made pro bono service a priority, twice receiving the firm’s Andrew Guy Pro Bono Award for her work for nonprofits and small businesses in Minnesota.
