Recognizing that it needed to have more women in leadership roles, law firm Cozen O’Connor started its Women’s Initiative program to bring programming, networking and connection to the women lawyers in the firm.
The firm promoted six women to shareholder in 2023 but wants to make further progress in that area.
“Further progress has to be made to include more women into shareholder ranks, and we are working to achieve that progress through development programming and mentoring designed to help women reach the business targets necessary to build their practices,” said Heather Marx, vice chair and managing partner of the firm’s Minneapolis office.
The Women’s Initiative gives female lawyers the opportunity to join round tables, marketing events and mentoring, and the Initiative’s program leaders work with management to address issues affecting the lawyers.
The bottom line for Cozen O’Connor is that focusing on its women lawyers brings the firm benefits in a variety of areas.
“Including, indeed championing, women to build the firm and improve the practice brings an important variety of perspectives, communication, respect, and teamwork that we believe is essential to success and continued innovation,” Marx said.
