Shareholder

Vincent Louwagie, shareholder at Anthony Ostlund Louwagie Dressen & Boyland P.A., is widely regarded as one of the top business litigators in Minnesota. He practices in all areas of business litigation with an emphasis in complex investment and shareholder matters.

What are the biggest challenges you currently see in business litigation?

I see three significant challenges, perhaps related. First is the pure amount of data (i.e., emails and other messaging methods) that make even relatively small cases more difficult to process. And second, the cost of business litigation has made dispute resolution more difficult. Finally, as a result of the cost and time required to get through the discovery and motion phases, fewer cases are actually getting to trial, and more are going through arbitration, which reduces the development of the law for business disputes.

What are the biggest misconceptions about the field of business litigation?

That it is glamorous, like in Suits. It is really hard work.

Without revealing the names of a client, what is the most interesting case you’ve worked on lately?

A shareholder dispute involving a family business after the passing of the founder.

How do you manage work/life balance?

By delegating more of the work.

What is one thing you would change about Minnesota if you could?

More snow in the winter.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

Most people don’t know me at all. But I am a pretty open book for those who do, so there may be nothing very interesting that those people don’t know about me.
