Colleagues say Jeremy Krahn has a calm, understated demeanor. But his outward appearance belies a temperament of integrity and achievement.

Krahn came to Maslon LLP after clerking for Minnesota Court of Appeals Judge Matthew E. Johnson. His practice is focused on product liability defense, complex commercial disputes and appeals.

“Maslon had very established business litigation and product liability defense groups when I arrived,” Krahn said. “I bonded with the attorneys in those groups.”

Part of the key to Krahn’s success has been his superior research and writing. That means deep knowledge of the record and applicable standards of review, especially when it comes to appellate cases.

But it has been advocacy that’s played a major role in garnering wins for his clients. Last year he was on a team that won summary judgment in a putative class action after 11 years of litigation in federal court; as a result, his client avoided damages that could have exceeded $100 million.

“It was against a bank client of ours, and there were pretty serious allegations in federal court,” said Krahn. “Summary judgment was just affirmed by the Second District Court of Appeals.”

Also last year, he successfully argued for the reversal of a pro bono client’s criminal conviction in the Minnesota Court of Appeals on the basis that evidence was obtained in violation of the client’s constitutional rights.

“Our client was charged with illegal possession of narcotics,” he said. “We argued that there was an unconstitutional search and the appellate court agreed.”

Krahn has also logged 97 pro bono hours per year since joining Maslon. An immigrant himself, his pro bono practice has focused on immigration. He has also served as a volunteer attorney with the Tubman Safety Project, Minnesota Wills for Heroes and as a coach with UPLIFT: Legal Institute for Teens, Maslon’s mock trial program.
