Jamie Briones’ litigation practice at Fafinski Mark & Johnson focuses on commercial and employment litigation. In that role, she routinely handles complex commercial litigation matters, usually in coordination with the firm’s practice group leaders.

Just this year, Briones has already been instrumental in cases and settlements involving human rights claims, employment law and whistleblower issues, contract disputes — and even an aircraft crash.

Briones clerked for Judge Nicole Engisch in Hennepin County, where she was in a criminal rotation working on adult felonies. That experience taught Briones that criminal law might not be the best fit for her.

“Our team transitioned to family law,” Briones said. “I did that for a few years, but an opportunity opened up at FMJ to do commercial and employment litigation, and I jumped at it.”

What do Briones’ colleagues think of her? One of her practice group leaders sent an email to the firm as a whole praising her work on an especially complex employment matter involving a prominent medical company; in that case, Briones took the lead on discovery and coordinated multiple attorneys.

Along with employment litigation, Briones sometimes works in such areas as e-discovery, human resources and employment, aviation, products liability and probate and trusts. She has also written and spoken about a variety of legal topics including pay transparency and legalized cannabis.

Briones is also involved with FMJ Women Uncorked, an internal program that began as a wine tasting event and has grown into a series of events aimed at supporting professionals. Briones has helped recruit new members and has also gotten involved with the firm’s annual golf outing for the Uncorked group.

Outside of the firm, Briones is a member of the Lakeville Chamber of Commerce and a former board member for the Minnesota Home Fund.
