Farah Famouri, Greene Espel PLLP

Farah Famouri traces her interest in law to the year she spent as a volunteer with AmeriCorps in 2014. She’d just graduated from West Virginia University and joined AmeriCorp’s office in Wenatchee, Washington, where she counseled victims of domestic and sexual abuse.

She sometimes accompanied her clients to court and doctors’ offices and saw the impact that law can have on their lives. That awareness first led her to the Boston University School of Public Health, where she received a master’s degree in health law, bioethics, and human rights in 2017, and then to the University of Wisconsin Law School and, finally, to Greene Espel PLLP in 2022.

“I’m very lucky in that I get to work on a lot of everything the firm works on,” she says. “I do a lot of commercial litigation, but I’ve also been fortunate to do a lot of municipal and public litigation, which is very important to me.”

Famouri also regularly takes on pro bono cases, including representation of a family from Mexico seeking asylum for a family that experienced persecution from a drug cartel in that country.

Her practice also includes some criminal defense work, including a recent case representing a criminal defendant through an investigation with the Attorney General’s Conviction Review Unit. “I’ve had the fortunate opportunity to represent that client through the process as the attorney general’s office reviews the evidence with fresh eyes,” she says.

Away from work, Famouri has long held an interest in theater and has focused her community involvement on the Jungle Theater in Minneapolis, where she is a board member. “That’s been a fantastic experience,” she says, “and it’s also been wonderful to meet folks around the Twin Cities that I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to meet otherwise.”
