What are the biggest challenges you currently see in business litigation?

Business litigation is increasingly shaped by complexity — whether it’s multi-jurisdictional disputes, regulatory entanglements or the rise of AI and data privacy concerns. As a former general counsel, and as the head of litigation for the U.S. subsidiary of a global company, I know first-hand that clients value and expect strategic foresight just as much as legal expertise. The challenge is balancing aggressive advocacy with practical business solutions, especially when reputational and operational risks are at stake.

What are the biggest misconceptions about the field of business litigation?

Many assume business litigation is just about courtroom battles. Yes, that’s one piece. However, my background as in-house counsel drove home to me that it’s more often about strategic positioning, risk mitigation and protecting long-term business interests. The best litigators aren’t just fighters — they’re problem solvers who know when to push, when to pause and how to align legal strategy with business goals. The best outcomes often come from knowing when not to litigate.

Without revealing the names of a client, what is the most interesting case you’ve worked on lately?

Recently, I defended a health care company against fraud allegations. The case highlighted the high stakes, high impact aspect of litigation. It required navigating complex regulatory frameworks, managing sensitive internal investigations and coordinating with multiple stakeholders all under intense scrutiny. The case was a reminder of, among other things, how litigation intersects with compliance, reputation management and public trust.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

I coach my son’s basketball and flag football teams, and it’s easily one of the most rewarding things I do. It reminds me that leadership isn’t about titles — it’s about showing up, listening, and helping others grow.

I’m also deeply committed to mentorship and education equity. I serve on several boards focused on empowering youth and underrepresented communities, continuing work I was passionate about during my time as National President of the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA).
