In her few years of practice, Erin Emory has integrated her current career with a previous one.

A former communications and grant writing professional in the nonprofit world, Emory uses those skills in her litigation practice.

“I’ve represented some municipalities, mostly on constitutional issues,” she said. “Public servants make good clients. They’re smart, hardworking and want to do what’s right.”

Emory joined Greene Espel after clerking for Magistrate Judge Hildy Bowbeer of the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota. Her knowledge of the court system in Minnesota, along with notable writing ability, helps clients in all stages of litigation.

Among the high-stakes cases she’s worked on are representing Target in a national class-action lawsuit in which she managed key depositions and successfully argued and won an important discovery motion. She was also part of the team that successfully won summary judgment, and a later appeal, on behalf of two municipalities under a novel constitutional theory.

“I was content in the nonprofit sphere, but I was looking for an advanced degree that would allow me to specialize in something,” she said. “I started law school later than a lot of my peers, but a law degree seemed like a good match.”

Emory has also led multiple matters for an investment management group involved in complex securities disputes, and is one of Greene Espel’s lead investigators for the City of Minneapolis, for whom she manages critical and sensitive workplace investigations.

She also has an active pro bono practice and is currently working on securing asylum for a client fleeing gender-based oppression in Guinea.

Within Greene Espel, Emory is also a leader on the Diversity and Recruiting Committee and is managing the firm’s summer clerk program.
