Rep. Gauthier endorses Nolan in CD 8 race

Duluth Rep. Kerry Gauthier is supporting former congressman Rick Nolan in his bid to unseat Republican Rep. Chip Cravaack in Minnesota’s 8th Congressional District.
In a campaign that has been defined by endorsements, Nolan announced Gauthier’s support late last week. Gauthier, a social services worker and former Duluth City Councilor, is serving his first term in the Legislature. Nolan is currently in a four-way race for the DFL spot on the ballot against former state Sen. Tarryl Clark, Duluth City Councilor Jeff Anderson and former U.S. Senate staffer Daniel Fanning.
The Gauthier endorsement is key for several reasons. In endorsing Nolan, Gauthier skipped over Anderson, who served on the city council with him. Gauthier is also breaking from DFL Range legislators like Rep. Carly Melin and Sen. Roger Reinert, who endorsed Anderson’s campaign. Gauthier replaced Reinert in the House.
