Somali man pleads not guilty to terror charge

Twenty-six-year-old Ahmed Hussein Mahamud entered the plea July 21 in U.S. District Court in Minneapolis. He faces four counts, including conspiracy to provide material support to terrorists.
Mahamud had recently moved from Minnesota to Ohio to get married. He’s been in custody since his June arrest in Ohio. He’s being released to a halfway house in Minnesota pending trial.
Mahamud is the 18th person charged in the government’s investigation into Somali men who traveled from Minnesota to Somalia to allegedly join the terror group al-Shabab.
Mahamud’s mother, Dhaqan Warsame, says through a translator that her son is a good man who is supported by many. She says he has a brain tumor that affects his thinking.
