Matthew J. Barber is partner at Schwebel, Goetz & Sieben. He is an appellate attorney who handles motions and appeals. While he understands that he cannot undo the bad things that have happened to clients, he does what he can to get the best results for them.

Barber began his career at the firm as a night office assistant in 2008. While attending the University of North Dakota Law School, Barber clerked for the firm during breaks and summers. After graduation, he joined the firm as an associate in 2015. With the firm 12 years now, Barber practices in personal injury litigation including car and truck collisions, motorcycle crashes and general liability cases. He was promoted to partner in 2025.

“Our clients are everyday Minnesotans who have suffered unimaginable losses,” Barber declares. “The first time they call us is usually on the worst day of their lives. We’re here to answer that call.” Barber says that the firm helps relieve clients of the burden of bills piling up so that they can get back to their lives and taking care of their families.

In addition to his work as a personal injury attorney, Barber also has submitted a number of amicus curiae appellate briefs on behalf of members of the Minnesota Association for Justice. Barber is also adjunct faculty at University of St. Thomas School of Law. Outside of legal practice, Barber enjoys running, reading, and NPR.

Barber was previously honored as Attorney of the Year by Minnesota Lawyer in 2017 for his role in the team that represented thousands of Midwest farmers in claims that Syngenta negligently marketed corn seed, causing an international trade disruption.
