The Minnesota Judicial Branch is accepting grant applications to help counties improve the safety and security of courthouses and other court facilities across the state.
The $4 million in funding, appropriated by the Minnesota Legislature in 2026, builds on previous state investments in courthouse security made in 2017, 2021, and 2024.
The Safe and Secure Courthouse Initiative grants may be used for security equipment, assessments, training, infrastructure improvements, construction, and other projects designed to enhance courthouse safety.
Counties and other local government entities responsible for maintaining court facilities are eligible to apply. Applicants must provide a 50% financial or in-kind match from non-state sources.
Applications will be accepted through Tuesday, Sept. 8. An advisory panel of judges, court staff, county officials, and statewide justice partners will review applications based on established grant criteria, with final award decisions expected in November.
