The governor has three new judicial seats to fill.
In the 2nd Judicial District, Ramsey County District Court Judge Jeffrey M. Bryan was elevated to the state Court of Appeals, leaving his seat open.
In the 1st Judicial District, two trial court judges — Lawrence Clark and Karen Asphaug — are retiring, leaving vacant seats.
The Judicial Selection Commission, which recommends nominees to the governor, is looking for candidates for all three spots on the bench.
As always, the commission is looking for “fair, experienced and civic-minded individuals to serve on the bench and offer their talents and services to Minnesota’s judicial system.”
Legal knowledge, integrity, maturity, judicial temperament and health — as it relates to the job — also are high on the preferences list.
Whoever replaces Bryan will chamber in St. Paul. The candidate replacing Clark will chamber Red Wing in Goodhue County. Asphaug’s successor, meanwhile, will chamber at Hastings in Dakota County.
Applications can be requested by contacting Carl Dennis, judicial appointments coordinator, by email at [email protected]. A cover letter and resume should also be submitted with the application.
Application materials for all three open slots are due by close of business on Thursday, Nov. 21 and should be addressed to the Commission Chair Lola Velazquez-Aguilu. Interviews for all three positions are scheduled for Friday, Dec. 20.
For inquiries concerning the application process, contact Dennis by email or by phone at 651-201-3433.
