James Lavoie, of counsel at Meshbesher & Spence, represents individuals who have been injured and families who have lost loved ones in matters involving personal injury, drunk driver liability, wrongful death, defective product injuries and medical malpractice.

He has secured notable results for clients, including a $1.2 million wrongful death verdict in a rollover accident, a $1.015 million product liability recovery for a skid steer design defect resulting in traumatic foot amputation, and a $625,000 personal injury settlement stemming from a head-on collision causing severe orthopedic injuries. He also has represented clients in civil rights cases involving harm by government officers or agents.

Lavoie began his legal career as Mille Lacs County attorney from 1978 to 1985, prosecuting cases ranging from financial crimes to murder, rape and child sexual abuse. He entered private practice first in St. Cloud and then in Minneapolis, where his work since 1991 has focused on civil litigation for injured individuals and families.

He is certified as a civil trial specialist by the Minnesota State Bar Association and is qualified as a neutral arbitrator and mediator.
