Robins Kaplan LLP Partner Robert Bennett has built one of the most accomplished plaintiff-side civil litigation practices in Minnesota over a career spanning four decades.

Bennett handles civil rights and police misconduct cases, wrongful death claims, product liability matters, and commercial disputes. His case results reflect the breadth and significance of his work. In 2019, he negotiated a $20 million settlement in the wrongful death case arising from the murder of Justine Ruszczyk by Minneapolis Police Officer Mohamed Noor — at the time the highest known result in the nation for a police shooting death.

Additional significant results include a $7.5 million settlement following Derek Chauvin’s 2017 excessive force assault of John Pope, a $6.2 million settlement for a man left paralyzed after being shot by a Carlton County officer with his hands raised, and a $2.995 million civil rights settlement in the police killing of Philando Castile.

Bennett is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court and multiple federal circuit and district courts.
