Judicial Branch announces death of OLPR’S Humiston

The on Thursday announced the death of Susan Humiston, the director of the Minnesota Office of Lawyers Professional Responsibility and .

“Susan led work that is essential to protecting the public, upholding the integrity of the legal profession, and helping understand and meet their professional responsibilities,” said Chief Justice Natalie Hudson in a news release. “She approached that work with exceptional judgment, deep expertise, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to fairness.”

The Minnesota Supreme Court appointed Humiston director of OLPR in 2016. OLPR is an independent agency of the Minnesota Supreme Court established to handle complaints of unprofessional conduct against Minnesota lawyers, including investigating and prosecuting complaints against attorneys warranting .

In addition to her work at OLPR, Humiston was a respected voice throughout Minnesota’s legal community. She regularly contributed to  programs and had a longtime column in Bench & Bar of Minnesota.

The Judicial Branch has named as acting director of OLPR until a permanent director can be appointed by the Minnesota Supreme Court.
