Joseph T. Dixon III, shareholder at Fredrikson & Byron, focuses on complex litigation, white collar and regulatory defense, False Claims Act defense, and internal investigations.
Dixon has tried more than two dozen matters to jury verdicts and argued more than 30 cases before appellate courts, including the Minnesota Supreme Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. He is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers.
Before joining Fredrikson, Dixon served as a federal prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Minnesota, where he led the prosecution of U.S. v. Thomas Joseph Petters, a multibillion-dollar corporate fraud case involving the owner of Polaroid Corp. and Sun Country Airlines that resulted in convictions on all counts and a 50-year sentence. He later served as deputy general counsel for UnitedHealth Group, managing significant internal investigations and responding to government inquiries.
Dixon also co-led a high-profile 2015 investigation of the University of Minnesota Athletics Department on behalf of the university.

John Duffey is a partner at Maslon LLP where he co-chairs the business litigation group and serves as co-general counsel to the firm. He earned his law degree cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School, where he served as editor-in-chief of the University of Michigan Journal of Law Reform.

Duffey represents clients in complex commercial litigation with an emphasis on noncompete, trade secret, product liability and corporate trust disputes, appearing in federal and state courts, arbitrations and mediations. His recent experience includes representing a major corporate trustee in litigation arising from one of the longest municipal bankruptcies in U.S. history; defending a national health insurance company in a restrictive covenant and trade secret dispute; and defending a global manufacturer in complex product liability litigation across multiple jurisdictions. He also obtained a multimillion-dollar judgment for a regional accounting firm in a noncompete dispute.

Outside his practice, Duffey volunteers as a coach for Maslon UPLIFT: Legal Institute for Teens, a mock trial program serving students from across the Twin Cities.

Greene Espel PLLP Attorney Sybil L. Dunlop practices in complex commercial litigation, intellectual property disputes, and post-acquisition matters.

Dunlop brings extensive first-chair trial and arbitration experience to multijurisdictional disputes involving breach of contract, complex business torts, copyright, trademark, and patent claims. Among her notable matters, she led a trial team in a $100-plus million dispute in the Southern District of New York that resulted in a favorable settlement following a directed verdict motion midtrial, won summary judgment for Target in a copyright matter, and secured a jury trial victory in a patent claim against U.S. Bank. She also led the first complete defense victory in a Covered Business Method proceeding before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

Beyond litigation, Dunlop is a nationally recognized speaker on topics including bias elimination, legal writing, and trial practice. She serves on the boards of the Infinity Project and the Heilicher Minneapolis Jewish Day School (now known as Harold and Mickey Smith Jewish Academy), and through the Infinity Project has personally helped hundreds of women prepare for judicial interviews.

Terrence J. Fleming is a shareholder at Fredrikson & Byron, where he focuses on commercial fraud litigation, including shareholder derivative and class actions, merger and acquisition litigation, SEC, FINRA and state regulatory proceedings, minority shareholder disputes, and securities arbitrations.

Fleming has completed more than 100 jury and court trials, arbitrations and regulatory proceedings across the country. He was admitted as a fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers in 2005 and has also served as an arbitrator, mediator, expert witness, and as a member of and counsel to special litigation committees.

His practice includes considerable experience representing receivers, trustees and victims of Ponzi schemes. Among his notable matters, Fleming represented the trustee in the Polaroid bankruptcy proceedings, securing affirmance by the Eighth Circuit of the trustee’s avoidance of liens pledged by the debtor as fraudulent transfers, and played a significant role in complex litigation arising from the multibillion-dollar Petters fraud.

Bryan R. Freeman is a partner and co-chair of the litigation group and chair of the insurance recovery group at Maslon LLP.

Freeman’s practice focuses on insurance recovery and complex commercial litigation, representing business policyholders in disputes over directors and officers liability, employment practices, cyber coverage, crime coverage and business interruption insurance.

He recently served as lead counsel for Life Time in its litigation over COVID-19-related business interruption losses, resulting in a $40 million recovery for the client. He also successfully defended First Premier Bank in a putative RICO class action, securing affirmance of summary judgment at the Second Circuit after more than a decade of complex litigation.

He earned his law degree magna cum laude from the University of Minnesota Law School and clerked for the Honorable David Hansen at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit and the Honorable David Minge of the Minnesota Court of Appeals.
