Dorsey & Whitney LLP Partner Erin Bryan chairs the firm’s Consumer Financial Services Group and is a member of its Finance & Restructuring Practice Group. She focuses on regulatory, compliance and default solutions for financial services clients, drawing on prior in-house experience at one of the nation’s largest banks.

Bryan’s regulatory and compliance practice spans anti-money laundering, fair lending, digital assets, earned wage access products, buy now pay later products, mortgage origination and servicing, privacy and government examination and enforcement. Her default and bankruptcy practice includes bankruptcy litigation, lien enforcement, secured creditor remedies and out-of-court commercial workouts.

Her representative experience includes serving as lead counsel on regulatory inquiries into consumer bankruptcy servicing practices, providing legal support in resolving mortgage servicing-related consent orders with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and the Federal Reserve, and directing development of fee matrices covering 94 jurisdictions.

Bryan regularly speaks to national audiences on emerging issues facing financial institutions and contributes analysis to leading industry publications.

Michael D. Gordon, practice group co-chair and partner at Taft, co-chairs the firm’s Finance practice group. With nearly 20 years of experience, he represents banks and other lenders in asset-based lending, syndicated credit facilities, construction and real estate loans, workouts and restructurings.

Gordon has acted as agent’s counsel on numerous large syndicated transactions, including a $550 million secured syndicated revolving credit facility and term loan to a public company with diverse U.S. holdings, a $350 million syndicated revolving credit facility to a metals trading company operating in the U.S. and Europe, and a $300 million syndicated revolving credit facility and term loan to a national sporting goods retailer. His lender’s counsel work spans industries including petroleum distribution, dairy processing, telecommunications, logistics and food ingredient distribution.

As practice group co-chair, Gordon focuses on developing tools to improve the predictability, transparency and efficiency of legal fees in commercial finance transactions.

He earned his law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 2002.

Karen L. Grandstrand, shareholder at Fredrikson & Byron, is a nationally recognized bank regulatory and mergers and acquisitions attorney advising clients on examination matters, compliance and enforcement actions, mergers and acquisitions, recapitalization and acquisition of troubled banks, private equity investments in banking organizations, corporate governance, risk management, and payment system and trust matters.

Before joining Fredrikson, Grandstrand spent 14 years at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, beginning in the Law Department and rising to senior vice president of the Banking Supervision and Risk Management Departments, where she oversaw safety and soundness, consumer, CRA, trust and IT examinations, as well as applications involving banks and holding companies. Earlier, she was a trial attorney at Frankel and McKay Ltd. in Chicago.

Grandstrand co-chairs the Minnesota State Bar Association’s Banking Law Committee and serves as a director of Citizens Independent Bank. She is a member of the American Bar Association and the Hennepin County Bar Association.

Brian J. Klein, partner and co-chair of the Financial Services Group at Maslon LLP, has led the firm’s Financial Services Group for more than 15 years and has served on Maslon’s board of directors since 2023.

Klein represents corporate trustees, financial institutions and other capital providers in commercial financing transactions. His workout and restructuring practice includes representing indenture trustees in defaulted municipal and corporate bond issuances, collateralized debt obligations and mortgage-backed securities, as well as trust instruction proceedings related to corporate trust administration.

Representative matters include serving as counsel to the trustee and collateral agent in connection with more than $2 billion in defaulted project financing transactions for energy projects in Venezuela, indenture trustee for $8.3 billion in bonds issued by the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority, trustee in $750 million in defaulted municipal bond financings for a California health system, and counsel to a national bank as agent in an $800 million syndicated revolving loan facility to an industrial product distributor with international operations.

Dorsey & Whitney LLP Partner Michael Pignato practices in the firm’s Finance and Restructuring group, where he serves as co-chair of the Banking and Financial Institutions Industry Group and previously co-chaired the Energy and Natural Resources Industry Group.

Pignato’s practice centers on tribal finance transactions, commercial lending, energy project finance and derivatives. He represents lenders, tribes and other participants in tribal finance transactions involving casino, lodging and entertainment facility construction and expansion, energy projects and tribal infrastructure. His work includes counseling on senior secured credit facilities ranging from $36 million to $500 million across multiple states.

Jason Reed, partner and co-chair of the Financial Services Group at Maslon LLP in Minneapolis, focuses his practice on corporate trustee representation, corporate trust litigation, and bankruptcy matters.

Reed’s bankruptcy practice encompasses representation of secured and unsecured creditors and creditors’ committees, as well as defense of financial and banking related litigation. Outside of bankruptcy, his practice includes restructuring of municipal projects such as senior housing, long-term care facilities and hospitals, along with commercial lending and asset-based lending transactions.

Representative matters include serving as counsel to the indenture trustee for $8.3 billion in bonds issued by the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority, indenture trustee for $170 million in unsecured notes issued by a bank holding company in a Chapter 11 restructuring, and indenture trustee for $325 million in secured notes in the Chapter 11 reorganization of a gas exploration and production corporation.

Reed has been a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute since 2016 and joined the ABI Healthcare Committee in 2023.
