Conferees approve bonding bill spreadsheet — without Moose Lake money

Capital Investment Committee conferees from the House and Senate approved a $999.9 million spreadsheet for the 2010 omnibus bonding bill at around 1:00 a.m. today. And, as described in this overnight release from the House's Session Daily, the package omits Gov. Tim Pawlenty's number one bonding priority: $90 million in funding for an expansion of the Moose Lake sex offender confinement facility.

Pawlenty’s $1.2 billion in cuts are really $700 million in cuts

Much has already been made of the $387 million asterisk in Gov. Tim Pawlenty's supplemental budget, which reflects nearly $400 million in extended federal stimulus dollars that Pawlenty is counting on to fill 30 percent of the state's $1.2 billion deficit for the remainder of the 2010-11 biennium. But it turns out the fine print includes another $120 million in one-time dollars.

Senate DFLers will push for much smaller cuts to local aid programs

When Senate Majority Leader Larry Pogemiller (DFL-Minneapolis) appeared before the press on Monday to react to Gov. Tim Pawlenty's supplemental budget, one key point of emphasis was his vow to reduce the size of Pawlenty's proposed $250 million cut in aid to local units of government. On Thursday, Sen. Tom Bakk (DFL-Cook), whose Taxes Committee will be taking up the matter of local government aid, told PIM he's aiming for a package that limits those cuts to roughly $100 million.
