Gov. Mark Dayton added his voice to the chorus of opposition to the plan.

With big piles of money and high stakes, candidates for governor, Congress and the U.S. Senate have so far absorbed most of the attention when it comes to fundraising. But they aren’t the only politicos who turned in fundraising disclosures in January after clamoring for donations in 2013.

It’s not too early to start campaigning for the Minnesota House. Case in point: One suburban seat already has three candidates jostling to go to the Legislature after next fall’s election. House District 53B covers part of the city of Woodbury in the southeastern suburbs, and its current representative, Republican Andrea Kieffer, recently decided she would not seek re-election next year.

Minnesota Management and Budget Commissioner Jim Schowalter rejected calls from American Indian activists who were pushing for the delay of bond sales on the new Minnesota Vikings stadium, the Star Tribune reports. The activists are trying to get assurances that the word "Redskins," the' nickname for the Washington, D.C. NFL team, will not be displayed inside the stadium.

Wolgamott worked on the campaign of Joanne Dorsher, Theis' DFL opponent in the special election.

The proposal failed on a 76-56 vote on Friday, with only three Republican legislators -- Reps. Tama Theis, Chris Swedzinski and Mark Uglem -- voting yes. Bonding bills need a supermajority to pass, meaning Democrats would have needed to attract eight Republican votes to reach the 81 required.

Tuesday’s two special elections left intact the 73-61 DFL House majority that existed after the November 6 election. DFLer Clark Johnson and Republican Tama Theis won special elections in districts that their respective parties had previously held.

The House race in St. Cloud’s District 14A didn’t garner much attention in last year’s campaign. As far as media and activists were concerned, all the action was in neighboring 14B, where a DFL challenger, Zach Dorholt, eventually knocked off first-term GOP Rep. King Banaian.

The 2013 legislative session may be in its second week, but it’s campaign season once again in two Minnesota House districts after recently re-elected lawmakers opted to take national lobbying jobs instead of returning to St. Paul.
