Bakk calls on Senjem to investigate Michel’s role in Koch scandal

Senate Minority Leader Tom Bakk weighed in on the state of affairs in the Minnesota Senate as he implored newly elected Majority Leader Dave Senjem to meet with him “as soon as possible.” He also told PIM Senjem should inquire into Sen. Geoff Michel's actions after being told of an inappropriate relationship between former leader Amy Koch and a male Senate staffer.

Senator Linda Scheid passes

Sen. Linda Scheid, who earlier this month entered hospice care, has died of cancer. Scheid started her legislative career in the state House in 1977 and exercised influence over business policy issues as Senate Commerce Committee chair.

Senate passes $1 billion budget-cutting bill

After several hours of debate and failed amendment attempts from Democrats on Thursday, the GOP-proposed bill passed off the floor with a 37-27 party-line vote. The bill makes about $1 billion worth of cuts by making permanent reductions to local government aid, higher education and health care made at the end of the 2010 session.
