Democracy Now host Amy Goodman, along with two of the syndicated radio show's producers, have settled a lawsuit stemming from their detainment during the 2008 Republican National Convention for $100,000. Last year the trio filed a lawsuit in federal court against the Minneapolis and St. Paul police departments, along with the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office and Secret Service personnel.

RNC 8 case ends with plea bargains
The four remaining members of the so-called RNC 8 pleaded guilty this morning to gross misdemeanor charges that will not result in any jail time. Defendants Rob Czernick and Max Spektor pleaded to one count each of conspiracy to commit riot, while Garrett Fitzgerald and Nathanael Secor pleaded to one count each of conspiracy to destroy property.

The single largest civil lawsuit stemming from police actions during the 2008 Republican National Convention will be subject to a settlement conference on Thursday. Thirty two individuals have sued the City of St. Paul and six police officers in U.S. District Court for allegedly violating their constitutional rights by wrongly arresting them and utilizing excessive force.
