Partner

Tara D. Sutton, a partner and chair of the National Mass Tort Group at Robins Kaplan LLP, has built a distinguished career representing individuals, governments, and Tribal Nations harmed by defective products, dangerous pharmaceuticals, and corporate misconduct. She served on the firm’s executive board from 2015 to 2024.

Sutton’s career includes some of the most consequential mass tort litigation in the country. She served as trial counsel in the State of Minnesota’s landmark tobacco litigation, which resulted in a settlement exceeding $6.6 billion in 1998. As lead trial counsel for the State of Minnesota against Juul and Altria, she secured a $60.5 million settlement — the largest per capita recovery of any state settling with Juul — after Minnesota became the first state in the nation to take such a case to trial. She also represented 28 Tribal Nations in the National Prescription Opiate Litigation, helping secure $1.5 billion in total settlements.

Currently, Sutton serves on the plaintiffs’ executive committee in the Depo-Provera products liability MDL, to which she was reappointed in March 2026.
