Lawrence P. Schaefer is the owner and president of Schaefer Halleen, LLC, where he serves as head of litigation. He focuses exclusively on representing employees who have faced workplace discrimination, with a particular emphasis on physicians, mental health professionals, and executives in severance negotiations and litigation.
He was admitted to the Minnesota State Bar and the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota in 1988, and to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit in 1989.
Among his most notable cases, Schaefer served as co-lead trial counsel in Jenson v. Eveleth Mines, the first successfully prosecuted sexual harassment class action in U.S. history, which inspired the film “North Country.” He also served as lead counsel in a case establishing the just cause standard for termination in Minnesota, securing a judgment exceeding $500,000 on behalf of a former Cargill vice president.
Schaefer frequently lectures at continuing legal education conferences on employment law topics.
