As it happens, that location had plenty of solo lawyers who either rented an office or rented conference rooms to meet clients. So when gaining admission to graduate school proved difficult, Lund “changed gears” after an attorney suggested she become a paralegal.
“I decided I’d try it and if I didn’t like it I could always go back to occupational therapy,” she said. “But I ended up falling in love with this career and I can’t imagine doing anything else now. It all worked out for the best even if I just took a really weird way to get there.”
Lund earned a dual graduate paralegal certificate and masters from a distance learning program offered by George Washington University in Washington, D.C. She joined Madel PA in 2017 and works with eight trial attorneys and four staff members.
The firm concentrates on business and civil litigation, criminal cases and internal company investigations. Lund often accompanies attorneys to court and just finished one trial and will be in the courtroom for two more this fall. “We are very busy,” she said.
A client who preferred anonymity nominated Lund after seeing her work in 2019 case her firm won. “Court employees and even members of the opposition legal team grew to rely on her and regularly acknowledged her abilities, professionalism, and hard work ethic,” the person wrote.
Lund has found her place. “I love the people I work with; I like the interesting cases we have because none of them are the same,” she said. “It’s never boring.”
