Anna Andow is replacing former Hennepin County Chief Judge Kevin S. Burke on that county’s bench. Meanwhile, Theresa Couri will take over for Judge Mary R. Vasaly, likewise in the state’s 4th Judicial District. Both Burke and Vasaly have retired.
Andow is a child-support magistrate at the Family Law Justice Center in Minneapolis, where she has presided over child support matters in expedited court. Before that, she was a longtime staff attorney for Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid.
Couri has been managing attorney at the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office. She is a former assistant state attorney general and once worked as a litigation associate at Oppenheimer, Wolff & Donnelly.
“Ms. Andow is an exceptional attorney who has a substantial amount of trial experience and has demonstrated a deep commitment to public service,” Gov. Tim Walz said in a press release announcing the appointments.
“Ms. Couri’s impressive legal career has spanned private practice, prosecution and management,” “ said Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan, quoted in the same news release. “In addition to her legal experience, her temperament, judgment and strong work ethic will make her an excellent judge.”
Walz named both women to the bench on Feb. 16.
