Lewis originally intended to use his degrees in sport management to work purely in sports. But a panel discussion that included attorneys in the sports and business worlds convinced him that law school was the right path.
Now he’s in Nilan Johnson Lewis‘ products liability/business litigation group, handling mass torts, contract disputes, insurance defense, and other transactional matters.
He enjoys helping clients achieve their goals, but he also makes sure to lend his skills to those who are less able to afford them.
What do you find the most rewarding or love best about working in the legal profession?
One of the most important rewarding feelings for me, especially being an African American attorney, is being able to give back to my community in a very substantial and meaningful way. I take a lot of pride in that, and that’s one of the reasons I went into law school.
What inspires you and motivates you to achieve your goals?
First and foremost, my family inspires me each and every day to achieve my goals. My family has always been in my corner and encouraging since day one to pursue this profession. Close friends inspire me as well, in terms of that reassurance, we’re all kind of in it together and we’re all encouraging each other. Finally it’s the larger community and also my mentors who are very inspirational to me.
What’s the best piece of advice that you ever received?
Two pieces of advice. The first is, appreciate the journey along the way. The second is network, network, network, in a genuine and authentic way. If you do it in a genuine way, you are able to make a genuine connection that benefits both.
