Remember your salad days, when you were green and inspired? Me neither, most of the time, but the fall Unsung Heroes awards always help me remember.

Our honorees are nominated by their peers and chosen by past recipients for their outstanding achievements for their clients, the profession and the organizations where they are employed.

It’s important to take note that it is not all about money. Certainly achieving a good economic result for a client is gratifying and important but our attorney honorees are also about smaller cases, community service, nonprofits, and, of course, pro bono work.  They are mentors to newer attorneys and committed to supporting the profession’s goals such as diversity, access to justice, legal education and lawyer wellness.

Our unsung legal heroes paint a detailed picture of what goes on behind the curtain. Some of them are technology whizzes who are making lawyers not only function but also able to find their own documents. Some are smoothing the way for their firm’s clients and some are working in the larger community on behalf of others. Some are getting the bills out so everybody can get paid and some are helping the lawyers get CLE credits and keep their licenses.

There is a common thread that runs through all our award recipients, and that is that their focus is on building relationships and helping others. For the attorneys and their staff members, their relationships with their colleagues and clients is the most important part of the work. That’s an encouraging take-away for all of us.
