Bar Buzz: HCBA celebrates centennial

The Hennepin County Bar Association celebrated its centennial and its new president at its annual meeting on Thursday, May 31 at the McNamara Alumni Center at the University of Minnesota.

Its new leader, Adine Momoh, is the first Africa-American woman to take the presidency of the HCBA. “The HCBA is a champion of the profession and a champion of everyone in this room,” Momoh said.

The bar association also awarded nine excellence awards to Landon Ascheman (mentoring in the profession), Michael Cockson (pro bono service), Yaima Couso (improving access to justice), Ami ElShareif (service to the profession), Phil Duran (advancing diversity and inclusion), Referee JaPaul Harris (improving access to justice), Susan Link (advancing innovation in the profession), R.J. Zayed (pro bono service) and Sue Pontinen, former director of Volunteer Lawyers Network (career contributions to the profession).
