Bar Buzz: ABA lauds First Amendment champion John Borger

Retired Faegre Baker Daniels attorney John Borger has received the American Bar Association’s Champion of the First Amendment Award from the ABA Forum on Communications Law, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reported.

The award cited Borger’s lifelong career of devotion to freedom of speech and of the press and for fighting to hold public officials and institutions accountable through transparency.

Borger, who has represented the media on First Amendment issues for four decades, is only the third recipient of the award, the others being Richard Winfield, general counsel for the Associated Press, and James Goodale, general counsel for the New York Times at the time of the Pentagon Papers.
