Sanders buys Minnesota ad time as caucuses approach

The campaign for the presidential nomination is about to hit the airwaves in Minnesota.

Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders booked light rotations of advertisements on Twin Cities TV stations, according to filings with the Federal Communications Commission. The Vermont senator’s campaign also purchased two weeks of airtime in the Duluth and Moorhead areas. The first ads were scheduled to begin Wednesday.

He’s the first candidate to reserve airtime as Minnesota voters gear up for presidential caucuses on March 1. Sanders and Democratic rival Hillary Clinton were scheduled to visit Minnesota on Friday for a major party fundraiser.

No Republican candidates had reserved airtime in Minnesota as Wednesday. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio vowed he’d return to Minnesota before the Super Tuesday caucuses during a Minneapolis stop last month.
