Lenczewski has a favorite to succeed her in House

Rep. Ann Lenczewski, DFL-Bloomington, who announced her resignation from the House earlier this week, is weighing in on the race to take her place.

Lenczewski told Capitol Report Thursday she is backing Bloomington City Council Member Andrew Carlson, who announced his intent to seek her vacated seat Monday.

“He’s a very effective, bright city council member, a two-term Democrat” Lenczewski said. “He talked to me and I am going to support him.”

Carlson is a two-term member of Bloomington’s city council, where Lenczewski served before embarking on her nine-term career at the Minnesota House.

Lenczewski said she hasn’t yet sent Gov. Dayton a formal letter of resignation, but expects her last day as a legislator to be in mid-December. Dayton will then call a special election to fill the District 50B seat.
