An attorney for former Minnesota quarterback Philip Nelson is seeking a hearing to challenge statements Nelson allegedly made after a fight that left a former Minnesota State, Mankato, football player severely injured.
Attorney Jim Fleming wants to challenge statements Nelson allegedly made to police after Isaac Kolstad was assaulted in May.
Nelson, 21, is charged with felony first-degree assault. He’s accused of kicking Kolstad in the head. Investigators say surveillance videos show it appeared Kolstad was unconscious at the time.
Kolstad was critically injured, and is going through therapy to recover.
A hearing has been tentatively set for Nov. 24 in Blue Earth County.
