Brodkorb mess cost you (and me) $390K

In the end, the Minnesota Senate will have spent at least $390,000 on legal defense fees in the now-settled lawsuit filed by a fired staffer.

The latest and possibly last invoice in the case was made public Friday. It coincided with a formal court order this week ending ex-senior GOP aide Michael Brodkorb’s federal lawsuit. The final months added about $78,000 to the Senate’s tab.

Senate leaders hired Bloomington-based law firm Larkin Hoffman and attorney Dayle Nolan to fight Brodkorb’s wrongful termination claims. He was fired following an affair with the former Senate majority leader Amy Koch.

The sides settled in late September, with the Senate agreeing to pay Brodkorb $30,000 in severance without conceding any wrongdoing on the institution’s part.

To date, Brodkorb hasn’t revealed what he paid his attorneys.
