A national Republican group is targeting 12-term DFL Congressman Collin Peterson in Minnesota’s rural 7th Congressional District.

The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) will start airing a 30-second television spot in the Twin Cities and Moorhead on Tuesday. In the ad, Prinsburg farmer Eric Wieberdink says Peterson’s support for  cap-and-trade puts farmers at risk. Peterson is up for reelection next fall, but he has no announced GOP challenger yet.

“Regulations are completely out of control to the point that I truly believe they absolutely will jeopardize most family farms,” Wieberdink says in the ad. “After 20 years in Congress, Collin Peterson has lost touch. His vote on cap-and-trade is something that definitely hurts farmers.”

The NRCC is spending about $22,000 on the spot. The group is also targeting 8th Congressional District DFL Rep. Rick Nolan this campaign season.  The group aired an ad earlier this month claiming Nolan hasn’t done enough to support veterans.
