Scott Honour
Scott Honour is seeking the GOP nomination for governor in 2014. The businessman announced the decision through a campaign video that was posted on his web site Wednesday.
“I’m worried that Minnesota is heading in the wrong direction and with the wrong leadership,” Honour says in the video. “We need to expand opportunity for the people of this state, not grow government. And I understand that we need to find a balance between caring for our fellow citizens and creating an environment that promotes economic growth and widespread opportunity.”
Honour returned to Minnesota last year after serving as senior managing director of the Gores Group, an international investment firm. He has been talking with political operatives and activists about a possible gubernatorial bid for months. Honour was a major fundraiser for Mitt Romney‘s presidential campaign and was a co-host of a fundraiser in Minnesota for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie last month.
Honour has little experience in grassroots GOP politics. But that background would likely give him the ability to bypass the GOP endorsement process and run in a primary.
At least two other Republicans have publicly indicated that they’re considering a bid for governor. State Sen. Dave Thompson of Lakeville has stated that he will make a decision after the legislative session concludes. Similarly, Hennepin County Commissioner Jeff Johnson has indicated that he’ll decide whether or not to run by the end of May. Other names that are frequently mentioned as possible contenders: former House Speaker Kurt Zellers, Senate Minority Leader David Hann and Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek.

Carpetbagger? He was born in Fridley, grew up here and moved back home to Minnesota after deciding to raise his family here and wanting the state in better fiscal shape for the future.
I’m just a few years older than Scott Honour and attended the same high school as Scott. He was a superstar then, and he’s only gotten better since. Minnesota is lucky to have someone of his talents, intelligence and character to lead them. The deeper you dig into his past, the more you’ll realize what I posted here is accurate. He’s the real deal.
