Dayton calls Feb. 12 special election for two vacant House seats

Gov. Mark Dayton has set a date for two greater Minnesota state House districts to hold special elections. Feb. 12 will be the day for voters to go to the polls in House District 19A in the St. Peter and North Mankato area and House District 14A in St. Cloud.
Both of the incumbents, Reps. Terry Morrow, DFL-St. Peter, and Steve Gottwalt, R-St. Cloud, officially resigned on Monday. They are both leaving to take new jobs. A special primary, if necessary, will take place Jan. 29. Both communities are home to significant populations of college students and the February date takes place after students return from winter break.
