DFL 8th District Congressman-elect Rick Nolan has announced a handful of new senior staffers who will join his team in Washington, D.C. and Minnesota.
Former Duluth City Council president Jeff Anderson, who ran against Nolan this summer in a DFL primary election, will serve as Nolan’s district director. Anderson became a supporter of Nolan after the primary. He will now oversee Nolan’s Minnesota congressional offices across the northeastern Minnesota district, including planned offices in Duluth and Brainerd.
Jim Swiderski, who worked with Nolan during his previous time in Congress the 1970s and 1980s, will return to be Nolan’s legislative director. Former Thief River Falls City Administrator Jodie Torkelson will be Nolan’s deputy chief of staff in Washington. Torkelson also worked with Leon Panetta during his time as a congressman.
Steve Johnson, another former Nolan staffer, will serve as his communications director. Johnson was previously the communications director for former DFL U.S. Rep. Gerry Sikorski and for the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce.
Nolan will swear into office on Thursday. He beat freshman Republican Rep. Chip Craavack with more than 54 percent of the vote on election night in one of the most expensive congressional races in the nation.
Best wishes for the swearing in. I will be with you in spirit and praying that you have a great run. Still interested in being a part of your team in Duluth.
Jeff is a good guy. He stuck by Rick after the primary. THis is what a good Democrat should do.
Congratulations, Rick!! I guess I won’t be having coffee with you for a while – the Frontier is closed anyway!
