House Speaker Kurt Zellers will make stops in suburban and rural areas of Minnesota in the days leading up to next Tuesday’s Election Day.
This afternoon Zellers campaigned in Edina in House District 49A, where Republican Bill Glahn is trying to keep the seat in the Republican column. The seat is being challenged by former GOP Rep. Ron Erhardt, who is running as a DFLer, to succeed Rep. Keith Downey, R-Edina, who is running for Senate.
On Thursday, Zellers is scheduled to make visits in western Minnesota. He’ll campaign for Republican Travis Reimche in Moorhead, who is running to hold the seat for Republicans and succeed Rep. Morrie Lanning, R-Moorhead. Reimche faces DFLer Ben Lien.
Also on Thursday he’ll head to Breckenridge to campaign for Republican Scott Dutcher. Dutcher is running to replace Rep. Torrey Westrom, R-Elbow Lake, who like Downey, is running for Senate.
Zellers will head back to the suburbs on Friday afternoon and campaign in Arden Hills for Russ Bertsch in the open House District 42A race against DFLer Barb Yarusso. The seat was created by redistricting.
He’ll stick around in the St. Paul suburbs all day on Saturday to campaign for Republicans Stacey Stout in HD 43A in the morning and Pam Cunningham in 53A in the afternoon. Stout is running against Peter Fischer in a district that was created by redistricting. Cunningham is running against JoAnn Ward, who was endorsed by the DFL to defend the seat held by retiring Rep. Nora Slawick. Both 43A and 53A are DFL-leaning districts where Republicans are making strong challenges.
On Sunday, Zellers plans to travel north to campaign for Rep. Carolyn McElfatrick, R-Deer River, who was paired in redistricting with Rep. Tom Anzelc, DFL-Balsam Township. Zellers will also campaign for Dale Lueck who is running in the geographically large District 10B that includes McGregor. The seat was created in redistricting.
Zellers’s staff said he will definitely campaign the morning before the election in the metro area.
