Eric Nauman named new Senate lead fiscal analyst

The Senate’s veteran K-12 education fiscal analyst Eric Nauman is stepping into the role of lead fiscal analyst. Nauman replaces Brent Gustafson as the non-partisan number cruncher on the Senate Finance Committee. Gustafson earlier this year left the Senate to become the chief financial officer at the University of Minnesota’s College of Liberal Arts.
Senate Counsel, Research and Fiscal Analysis Tom Bottern said the office will hire a new fiscal analyst for the Education Committee. It’s also hiring an education research analyst. The new education fiscal analyst will have big shoes to fill because Nauman is regarded as one of perhaps five or six people in the state who actually understand how the state’s byzantine system of education finance works.
