Marketing Coordinator and Executive Legal Assistant, Moss & Barnett

Debbie Weinstock, marketing coordinator for Moss & Barnett, is the driving force behind the firm’s extensive marketing efforts. Whether she’s producing its weekly radio show, handling its social media, planning marketing events or preparing collateral marketing pieces, she’s the go-to person.

Weinstock knows the internal workings of the firm; she joined in 1983 as a legal assistant and worked her way up the ranks. In addition to marketing coordinator, she’s executive legal assistant to the firm’s CEO and another senior shareholder.

“I know the culture very well,” she notes. “I know the people. I understand what they’re trying to do and the message they’re trying to get across.”

She’s gotten to know the firm’s attorneys and their practice areas well by coordinating the firm’s principal communications piece called the “News from Moss & Barnett.” She also produces “Minnesota Law,” a public affairs program tackling legal topics and covering legal news, which airs on WCCO Radio 830AM on Saturday mornings.

“When you have a different attorney on every week, you get to know more about their areas of expertise, and I’ve developed tremendous respect for how talented our attorneys are,” she says.

Program topics have included changes in family law, selecting and protecting trademarks, and information on non-compete agreements. Weinstock says the show is a way to introduce listeners to the legal community and offers them the opportunity to ask general legal questions.

When Weinstock took over as marketing coordinator in 2006, she assisted in rebranding the firm and creating and maintaining its website.  A new website launch is planned for early 2013. She also created and maintains the firm’s social media presence, including Twitter and LinkedIn.

“I do the firm’s social media and have been learning as I go; I think all of us have been,” she says. “The thing about legal marketing is it’s always evolving and changing, especially with social media just coming to the forefront. There’s always something new, and that’s what I enjoy the most.”
