Retiring state Sen. John Harrington, DFL-St. Paul, has been named police chief of Metro Transit.
Harrington is a former St. Paul police chief. He was elected to the Senate in 2010, but he didn’t receive the endorsement earlier this year from Senate District 67 DFLers and opted not to seek re-election. Fuong Hawj won a contested primary in the heavily DFL-leaning district.
Harrington, who will start at Metro Transit on September 4, replaces Dave Indrehus, who retired in January.
The Metro Transit Police Department has 69 full-time police officers and 55 part-time officers who patrol the bus and rail lines in the seven county metro area.
