A recount will be conducted on Thursday to confirm the outcome of the closely contested DFL primary in House District 59B. Raymond Dehn defeated Terra Cole by just 19 votes in the North Minneapolis race, with Ian Alexander finishing third.
The margin of victory was not within the .5 percent required to automatically trigger a recount. But Cole’s campaign has requested that the ballots be tallied again and will be on the hook to pay for the proceedings.
“This race was so tight, many voters have requested a recount to ensure that their votes were indeed counted,” Cole wrote to supporters on Tuesday.
The primary contest in 59B was the closest legislative race in the state. The winner will replace Rep. Bobby Joe Champion, who is running for the Senate.
