Local GOP chair resigns to challenge Limmer in SD 34

Sen. Warren Limmer

Chuck Roulet, co-chair of the Republican Party in Sen. Warren Limmer‘s district, has resigned his post to run against the six-term incumbent.

“After a great deal of encouragement by delegates and community leaders, I have decided to seek the endorsement for state senate for SD34 at our upcoming convention,” Roulet wrote in message to GOP activists in the district on Wednesday afternoon. “I left a message for Sen. Limmer earlier informing him of my decision.”

Roulet originally filed to run in the House, with the expectation that the Maple Grove area would land an additional legislative seat because of population growth. But on the new legislative map, Roulet was drawn into the same district as Rep. Joyce Peppin.

Limmer is the influential chair of the Judiciary Committee. Roulet is an attorney specializing in estate law. The endorsing convention will be held on March 31.
