In a reaction to the redistricting maps that were announced last month, state Sen. Al DeKruif has announced he won’t seek a second term.
DeKruif, a Republican from Madison Lake, was paired with third-term Sen. Julie Rosen, R-Fairmont, in the newly drawn District 23. Most of DeKruif’s current district is in the new District 20 that includes Belle Plaine, New Prague and Northfield. District 20 is an open seat in the 2012 general election. But DeKruif has decided not to move or challenge Rosen.
“I am absolutely confident that Senator Julie Rosen will prevail and continue to be a conservative voice for our district. And I know that the new Senate District 20 will field an A-plus Republican candidate who will work to continue the amazing turn around we’ve accomplished in the past two years. I will aggressively work to elect them both as well as others throughout the state.”
