Kennedy to lead George Washington grad school program

Former Minnesota U.S. Rep. Mark Kennedy has a new gig: The three-term member of Congress will lead the George Washington University Graduate School of Political Management, serving as the program’s director starting Jan. 23.

Kennedy’s appointment to the post marks the end of an 18-month-long search for the program, according to the GW Hatchet, and will mark a further expansion of Kennedy’s presence in and around Washington. He’s served as a lecturer at Johns Hopkins University and University of Pennsylvania.

“I am excited to help validate GSPM’s position as the premier school of applied politics in the United States and world,” Kennedy said in a statement.

Since a failed run against U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar in 2006, Kennedy has worked with Accenture but also served as an appointee on the presidential Advisory Committee on Trade Policy under both presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama. During his time in Congress, he served on the Financial Services, Transportation and Agriculture committees.

As of today, Kennedy is CEO of and chairman of Chartwell Advisors. He also founded and continues to lead the Economic Club of Minnesota. He’ll continue in that role while in his new post, the school said.

The graduate of St. John’s University near St. Cloud, Minn. currently lives in Watertown, but told the Star Tribune he and his wife expect to spend most of their time in Washington thanks to his new post at GWU.
