Sen. Warren Limmer is not running for chair of the state Republican Party. On Tuesday the Judiciary Committee chair told reporters that he was weighing a bid for the party’s top post, but has now decided to focus on his duties in the Senate.
“I just decided this morning that I am withdrawing [from consideration],” Limmer tells PIM. “I’m grateful for being considered for the job. The party has its challenges.”
Limmer does not intend to endorse another candidate for party chair. “I’ll let the delegates decide,” he says.
GOP activists will gather in St. Cloud on Saturday to elect a new chair following the resignation of Tony Sutton earlier this month. Currently there are three challengers for the post: GOP operative Pat Shortridge, Second Congressional District GOP chair Terry McCall and Todd McIntyre.
