Two days after filing  to run for the Senate seat being vacated by Larry Pogemiller, Cordelia Pierson has dropped out of the contest. Instead Pierson announced that she is backing Kari Dziedzic, one of six DFLers remaining in the contest. Dziedzic is currently a policy aid to Hennepin County Commissioner Mark Stenglein.

“Dziedzic has shown a strong ability to find solutions by building partnerships and working collaboratively,” Pierson said in a statement. “This ability and her experience working with Wellstone and in Hennepin County prepare her well for this campaign, and representing our district in the Minnesota Legislature.”

DFL party officials in Senate District 59 have opted not to hold an endorsing convention prior to the December 6 primary. Candidates have until the close of business on Thursday to withdraw from the race. There is also one Republican candidate, Ben Schwanke, in the race. The general election will be held on January 10.
