Mike Parry will officially kick off his campaign to knock off U.S. Rep. Tim Walz on Thursday. The two-term state senator has nine events scheduled over two days across the First Congressional District.
Parry is so far the only Republican challenging Walz. Earlier this week state Rep. Steve Drazkowski, who had flirted with a congressional bid, announced that he’s backing Parry.
State Sen. Julie Rosen has suggested that she might be interested in taking on Walz too. Former state Rep. Allen Quist, who unsuccessfully sought the GOP endorsement last election cycle, wrote on his web site on Wednesday that he’s “leaning in the direction” of running again in 2012.
